First Degree
The First Degree serves as the foundational level, introducing students to key principles and practices of Reiki as both a healing art and spiritual discipline. Emphasis lies in connecting students to Reiki energy for self-healing and using with friends and family. This level is non-professional practice level; additional training is necessary for public practice and charging for services. See below for a more detailed description.

Synopsis
The first degree of Reiki training introduces individuals to the fundamentals of Reiki healing. Students learn about the history and principles of Reiki, as well as basic energy anatomy and techniques for self-healing and healing others. Emphasis is placed on developing a strong personal practice, which involves regular self-treatments to enhance physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Additionally, practitioners are equipped to offer Reiki to friends and family members.

The first degree of Reiki training provides a solid foundation for personal healing and support within one's social circle. It empowers individuals to take charge of their well-being and extend healing energy to loved ones. However, it's important to note that practicing Reiki professionally typically requires further training and certification.

Duration and Format
• The course may be delivered one on one or in a group with a maximum of 20 students (however, groups are generally limited to a maximum of 10).
• The course is conducted over a minimum of 10 hours spread over 2 to 4 days. Note this includes direct teaching, practice, and discussion time but excludes break time.
• Sessions are conducted face to face, and all initiations will be conducted one on one in the physical presence of the initiating Master Teacher.
• Students will receive 4 individual separate hands-on in-person initiations connecting them to Reiki energy for life.
Assessment
The course will consist of both formative and summative assessment.
Formative Assessment will be conducted throughout the course and may include,

Certification and Documentation
Students who complete this course will receive:
• A Usui Shiki Ryoho First Degree Student Handbook, including a copy of this syllabus.
• An individually registered and numbered First Degree certificate, including your Reiki Master Teacher’s personal Hanko and Seal.
• A copy of your Reiki Master Teacher’s lineage showing a direct unbroken line to Mikao Usui, including your Reiki Master Teacher’s personal Hanko and Seal.
Ongoing Support
Students who have completed Usui Shiki Ryoho First Degree Reiki – Personal Practice will be invited to:
• be part of an ongoing support network via Facebook and or organised Reiki share events.
• attend future First Degree workshops at a discounted cost to review and deepen their knowledge, skills, and practice.
Articulation
• This course may be taken as a standalone course.
• This course articulates into Usui Shiki Ryoho Second Degree – Personal and Professional Practice.
Recognition
• Reiki training is not accredited by any government body and is an unregulated industry.
• This course aligns with training standards set by Reiki Australia and the Australian Reiki Connection.
• Graduates may join these associations as non-professional members upon completion.
